Budweiser Shootout - Daytona International Speedway

Jarrett Wins Budweiser Shootout
In what turned out to be an exciting prelude to the 2004 season, Dale Jarrett took the checkered flag in the Budweiser Shootout. Jarrett started 10th on the final restart with seven laps to go and used a push from the defending Shootout champion Dale Earnhardt Jr. to get to the front of the field and take the win. Jarrett outran Earnhardt by .157 seconds to take his third career Shootout victory. The Budweiser Shootout, a 70-lap race featuring the pole winners from the previous season and former winners of the Shootout, featured a 13-minute red flag period to repair the crossover gate after Jeremy Mayfield and Dave Blaney crashed off of turn two. Kevin Harvick brought his Chevrolet home in third place, while Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon rounded out the top five.
