Busch Thunders to Threepeat at Thunder Valley
Kurt Busch loves the Bristol Motor Speedway and after three straight wins at the Tennessee track, it is easy to see why. Busch held off a determined Rusty Wallace by .428 seconds to capture his third consecutive victory, and fourth in the last five races, at Bristol. Busch becomes only the fourth driver in NASCAR history to win three straight at Bristol. Busch would lead the most laps on the day, pacing the field for 119 of the event’s 500 laps to score his ninth career win. The victory helped Busch move into the second position in the Nextel Cup point standings, trailing teammate Matt Kenseth by 21 points. Wallace had to settle for second place, extending his winless streak to 104 races. Kevin Harvick crossed the finish line in third, while Sterling Marlin and Matt Kenseth rounded out the top five.
Newman Wins Bristol Pole
Ryan Newman won the pole position for the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday afternoon. Newman will lead the field to green flag for the third time this season and for the 21st time in his career. Newman’s lap of 14.954 seconds, at an average speed of 128.314 mph, was enough to edge Jeff Gordon for the top starting spot at the .533-mile bullring. Gordon will start from the outside pole position, while Greg Biffle and Rusty Wallace start from row two. Rookie Kasey Kahne will roll off from the fifth position on the starting grid.
