Kenny Wallace Event Preview / No. 23 Stacker 2 Dodge
The Winston Open - May 16, 2003
Wallace on The Winston Open: Although Kenny Wallace, driver of the No. 23 Stacker 2 Dodge, has one start in The Winston, NASCAR's only All-Star event, he'll have to race his way into it this year.
"The Winston is such an exciting weekend for the NASCAR community," said Wallace. "It is the one event that is all about fun. You're not racing for points; just money and the trophy. The race is all or nothing. It is all about winning. It is also great to have two weekends in a row that we get to sleep in our own beds and race in our backyard."
Weekend Off Activities: Wallace spent his time off racing, of course! He competed in the NASCAR Busch Series event at Gateway International Raceway on Saturday and competed in a dirt-modified car on Tuesday, May 13th in Farmer City, Illinois and Wednesday, May 14th in Paducah, Kentucky.
"I've had a lot of fun these past few days," said Wallace. "I've been able to race just for the sheer fun of it and only to win the event. I was really proud to carry the St. Louis Cardinals colors in St. Louis last weekend. I was disappointed with not coming home with the win, but it felt like a vacation. I was able to stay in my hometown of St. Louis for a few days and visit with family and friends, which was very special too. I want to extend my thanks to Bill Davis and Joe Nemechek for making the whole deal happen."
"This week I've been hanging out my good buddy, Ken Schrader doing some dirt modified racing," said Wallace. "Tuesday we raced in Farmer City, Illinois and Wednesday night in Paducah, Kentucky. My car is really good and was painted in the Stacker 2 paint colors, however, a company named Dirtworks sponsored the car, as they are a company who builds dirt cars."
Equipment: The Stacker 2 team is taking a brand new car to Lowe's Motor Speedway for The Winston.
"We're taking a brand new car to The Winston this weekend," said Wallace. "The Winston will serve as a good test session for the Coca-Cola 600. It's a win-win situation, because even if you can't win the race, we'll definitely learn things that we'll need for the next weekend when points matter."
