Pontiac Excitement 400 - Richmond International Raceway

Nemechek Wins Under the Lights at RIR
Joe Nemechek overcame a pit mistake to claw back through the field and claim the win in the rain-shortened Pontiac Excitement 400 at Richmond International Raceway. Nemechek had the dominant car on the night, leading six times for 155 of the event’s 392 laps. The event was marred by a record 15 cautions for 91 laps and a late-race red flag for rain, that eventually ended the event seven laps short of the scheduled distance. It was the third career win for Nemechek and his first since November 2001. Bobby Labonte finished in the runner-up spot for the third consecutive race. Dale Earnhardt Jr. crossed the stripe in third, followed by Robby Gordon and Mark Martin in the top five.
