Pennzoil Racing/Jeff Green: Pocono Advance
Notes:
Best Run: Pennzoil driver, Jeff Green, experienced his best performance at Pocono Raceway in June of 1997 when racing for Diamond Ridge Motorsports. Although starting 29th in the 200-lap event, Green battled through the field and eventually took the lead. Green would go on to lead 15 laps, before suffering engine failure while running in the top-10.
Out Fishing: Green will be spending Wednesday, June 4 fishing in Lake Buena Vista, Florida in the Jeff Burton Celebrity Challenge fishing tournament. Green will be paired with one of six BASS anglers to win the tournament, the trophy and the $10,000 donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to be given in their names. The tournament will air on ESPN2 during the week of July 28-August 3.
Busy Sunday: The No. 1 Pennzoil team defined "teamwork" last Sunday at Dover International Speedway. By the end of Sunday's race, the Pennzoil team had completed 34 pit stops. After suffering extensive damage in the multi-car accident on lap one, the team completed several pit stops to keep the Pennzoil Chevrolet on the racetrack. Through seven pit stops, the team created a brace to hold the deck lid up while keeping the fuel cell from dragging. Later in the race, Green was rear-ended once again, causing further damage to the tail of the car. The team once again went to work, repairing the damage and returning the car to the track running speeds identical to the leaders.
Chassis Notes: Crew Chief, Tony Gibson, will bring chassis No. 033 to Pocono Raceway this weekend. This chassis has been used only once, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway earlier this season where the Pennzoil team finished 10th.
Next Race: The Winston Cup Series travels to Pocono Raceway for the Pocono 500. The race will be broadcast live on FOX, with pre-race beginning at 12:30pm ET this Sunday, June 8.
Quotes:
Green on Pocono Raceway: "Pocono is different than any track we run all year. Every lap is different. Every corner is different. At Pocono, a driver has to shift and actually drive the track like it's a road course. The whole weekend is just different overall."
Green on this weekend's Pocono 500: "I've had races at Pocono where I've felt that we ran really well, and I've had times there that I thought we could've done a lot better. I definitely think this Pennzoil team has a shot. If we can qualify good, and stay out of trouble then we can definitely get a good finish there."
On the Pennzoil team's performance: "Working with these guys has been so exciting. Caliber of men on this team is just amazing. Last weekend they put a wrecked car back together perfectly, and we never lost a lap on pit road. Their performance should definitely give them a boost in confidence. For them to put that car back together and make it competitive after what it had gone through was impressive. I'm sure they turned some heads on pit road."
Crew Chief, Tony Gibson on Pocono: "Pocono is a combination between a speedway and a short track. There are only three corners at this track, and most cars can only get good in two of them. The tunnel turn is the hardest one to get hooked-up on. If your car can run good there, you're set.
"Exiting turn three is the biggest challenge at Pocono. This turn is long and sweeping. The driver has to be on the gas for a long time, which tends to make the car want to slide. Forward bite is very important at Pocono."
