Rock & Roll 400 Recap: Ricky Craven drove his Tide Pontiac to a 30th-place finish at Richmond International Raceway. A pit road miscue put the PPI Motorsports team two laps down to the race leaders around lap 96 of the 200-lap event.
The Chassis: The chassis Ricky Craven will drive at New Hampshire Int’l. Speedway (NHIS) is chassis No. 49. This chassis has only been driven in one previous race, that being the July 20 Winston Cup race at NHIS. The chassis was built new in-house at PPI Motorsports earlier this season.
Last Race at New Hampshire: The Tide team scored a 21st-place finish in the July 20 Winston Cup event at New Hampshire Int’l. Speedway. After running in the top-five for much of the event, a late pit stop for fuel dropped Craven back in the field.
Ricky Craven’s New Hampshire Int’.l Speedway starts: Avg. Start: 11.7 Avg. Finish: 24.3
Craven has started in the top-10 seven times in his 14 NASCAR Winston Cup (NWC) starts at NHIS and has two top-10 finishes (a sixth-place finish in Sept., 2002, and a fifth-place finish in Sept., 1997). Two of Craven's six NWC Bud Pole Awards also came at NHIS (July, 1998, and July, 1996).
New Look for Tide Racing Website - Procter & Gamble, Tide’s parent company, recently relaunched the Tide Racing website, which features a newly revamped design. Fans visiting the site can find information on the Tide Racing team, read about the history of Tide’s 16-year involvement in NASCAR, and purchase Tide Racing merchandise. Tide at New Hampshire - If Ricky Craven finds his way to Victory Lane on Sunday, it won't be the first time a guy named Ricky has teamed up with Tide for a win at NHIS. Ricky Rudd piloted his Tide-sponsored entry to a win at New Hampshire Int'l. Speedway in July, 1993. The victory was Tide's 13th win in NASCAR Winston Cup Racing since joining the sport in 1987.
Ricky Craven, on coming back to New Hampshire Int’l. Speedway - “Last time we were here, we came up about a half-gallon short on fuel. We had an incredibly strong car, but the fuel strategy just didn’t play out like we needed it to. As good as we were, we were still getting beat by the (No.) 24 car, so we need to tweak our setup a little to overcome that.”
“It’s always a special feeling to return to New Hampshire. The fans really show my family a lot of love and support, and always have. I think it’s a neat track to race on, and it’s near the top of my list of tracks where I want to win a Winston Cup race. The work that’s been done to the track seems to have really made a lot of difference as far as being able to pass. As the track gets more seasoned, I think the racing will get better and better.”
Ricky Craven, on the installation of SAFER Barriers at New Hampshire Int’l. Speedway - “I think it’s a wonderful thing. I know that NASCAR has put a lot of time and effort into evaluating the barrier system to make sure it does what it’s supposed to before approving it for use at these tracks. I’m also very proud of the Bahre family for their willingness to incur the expense necessary to install the system at their track. Bob Bahre has always gone above and beyond to take care of the teams and drivers that visit his facility.”
