Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn 400 - Ward Burton Notes

Ward Burton will make his 321st NASCAR Winston Cup start and third for the NetZero HiSpeed Racing team this weekend at North Carolina Speedway.

BURTON ON ROCKINGHAM…”Naturally, North Carolina Speedway means a great deal to me since I got my first victory there. It’s a great track to race on and it’s been a pretty good to me throughout the years. There are a lot of elements involved in running successfully there, so you really have to be on top of your game from the time you unload the car to the last lap of the race. I have a great deal of confidence in Tony (Furr, crew chief) and the NetZero HiSpeed Racing team, and every time we show up at the track we’ll get better and better. It’s just a matter of spending time together and communicating effectively with each other. Obviously we didn’t have the kind of weekend we would have liked in Phoenix, but I still think we’re farther ahead than I thought we would be at this point. It’s good that we have these last couple of races together this season to get ready for next year and to get this team where it should be. Tony and I talk every day and we are focusing on what we need to do to get ready for 2004, while still concentrating on making 2003 as successful as it can be.”
