Subway 400 - North Carolina Speedway
Jarrett Claims Second Win at Rockingham
Experience won out over youth. Dale Jarrett outran Kurt Busch over the final laps of the Subway 400 at North Carolina Speedway to claim his second career victory at Rockingham. Jarrett passed Busch with ten laps remaining in the race only to lose it to Busch five laps later. Jarrett then passed Busch for the final time on lap 390 and led the final three laps to take home the win. The win for Jarrett is the 31st in his career and his first under crew chief Brad Parrott. Busch would finish in the runner-up spot for the second consecutive week and take the early lead atop the Winston Cup championship points. Matt Kenseth finished third, giving Ford a sweep of the top three positions, followed by Ricky Craven and Jamie McMurray in the top five. Rusty Wallace led the most laps on the day, staying out front for 182 of the event’s 393 laps. The race featured 21 lead changes among 11 different drivers.
Blaney Wins First Pole at "The Rock"
Dave Blaney captured his first career pole position on Friday, winning the top starting spot for the Subway 400 at the North Carolina Speedway. After practice and qualifying were delayed by rain, Blaney turned in a qualifying lap of 23.669 seconds, at an average speed of 154.683, to grab his first pole in 113 Winston Cup starts. Johnny Benson, who scored his only Winston Cup win at Rockingham last November, qualified in the second spot. Mark Martin qualified third, while Sterling Marlin and Bill Elliott made out the top five starting positions.
