Sirius at the Glen 400 Recap: Ricky Craven drove his Tide Pontiac to a 28th-place finish at Watkins Glen international. Starting from the 38th position, Craven fought an ill-handling racecar to score his 18th finish of 30th or better in 2003.
The Chassis: The chassis Ricky Craven will drive at Michigan International Speedway (MIS) is chassis No. 38, the same car Craven finished 15th with in the June 15 event at MIS.
Ricky Craven’s Michigan International Speedway starts: Avg. Start: 15.9 Avg. Finish: 20.6
Driver Ricky Craven, on Michigan International Speedway - “I really like this place. We’ve got a pole here (August, 2001), and we were closing fast on Sterling (Marlin) in that race when the rains came. You can play the ‘what if’ game all day, but if the rain had held off for another couple of laps, I think we’d have won that race. We just need to finish the job this time around.”
Driver Ricky Craven, on changing the NASCAR Points System - “I think that there ought to be some points given for qualifying well. If we’re going to dedicate an entire day and a lot of our focus to qualifying, it ought to mean more than just pit stall selection. Maybe award the pole sitter 5 or 10 points. Otherwise, I think the points system is fine the way it is.”
Crew Chief Scott Miller, on Michigan International Speedway - “This is a place where you can’t ‘hide’ if you have a bad car. At some other tracks, if your car’s not handling well, you can still pull off a decent finish. Here, if you’re bad, it’s pretty obvious.”
Testing at Kentucky Speedway - PPI Motorsports had what team owner Cal Wells called a “very successful” test session at Kentucky Speedway last Wed. and Thurs., Aug. 6-7. According to team engineer Kent Day, the team found a few things in the area of aerodynamics that should prove useful at a number of tracks. The team also used the test to decide which chassis to bring to Michigan International Speedway (MIS) this weekend, with chassis No. 38, the same one Craven drove at MIS in June, getting the nod.
