Pepsi 400 - Mike Bliss Notes

ADVANCE MATERIAL FROM MIKE BLISS AND THE ADVAIR DISKUSŪ (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol inhalation powder) RACING TEAM FOR THE PEPSI 400 NASCAR WINSTON CUP SERIES RACE AT DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY, JULY 4, 2003.

MIKE BLISS WILL START 32ND IN SATRUDAY NIGHT'S PEPSI 400 NASCAR WINSTON CUP SERIES RACE AT DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY. BLISS' MOST RECENT WINSTON CUP START CAME AT MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY IN OCTOBER 2002 WHERE HE FINISHED 14TH. HIS BEST WINSTON CUP FINISH IS NINTH IN OCTOBER 2000 AT TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY.

THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU. "It's pretty big and to be with a top notch, championship Winston Cup team with Joe Gibbs Racing is pretty big. I got such a bad taste in the past from Winston Cup that I didn't want to come back. If I had a chance I wanted it to be with someone good and how much better could it be? I'm pretty excited. Looking around at the crewmembers on my team, (they are) pretty good crewmembers. They are the retired guys but we've got Mark (Cronquist) working on the motors and Nelson as an engineer. It's a pretty good bunch of guys." HOW DID THIS COME ABOUT? "They asked if I wanted to run a couple of Cup races, here and at Talladega. J.D. (Gibbs) called me up and asked me if I wanted to do it." DOES RUNNING THE WINSTON CUP CAR COMPLIMENT YOUR BUSCH CAR? "It won't help us because we're running a Pontiac and we have Chevrolets over there and they are totally different beasts. It doesn't help us any there." WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE RACE SATURDAY NIGHT? "Stay out of trouble. That's the biggest thing. I think everybody is going to say the same thing. I'm here to help Bobby and Tony's team. Whatever we can learn off of this car we help them. I'm here to help them out but you know how this place gets. You try to help them but you can't do it. Whatever I can do for them is probably what I'm here for." WILL THE CUP RACE BE RADICALLY DIFFERENT THAN THE BUSCH RACE? "For me it will. We qualified fifth in the Busch car and we have a good car. The Busch race will probably have more guys that will want to run with us than the Cup race. I can't imagine too many guys in the Cup race wanting to run with me because I'm in there just for two races a year. I understand that and that's fine but I'm there to help the 20 and the 18." THE LAST TIME YOU RAN A WINSTON CUP RACE YOU FINISHED IN THE TOP-10. DO YOU LIKE RESTRICTOR PLATE RACING? "I don't mind them, I'll put it that way. It's not my favorite racetrack but I don't mind them. It's pretty fun to race at but it's not racing to me. It's just staying out of trouble all day. Here at Daytona handling comes into a factor. Whoever can stay down on the wood the longest period of time is going to probably be pretty good. If I have a chance (to run well) I'm going to do it but I'm here for just a few races and I don't want to cause a big pileup and then walk out of here with everybody here mad at you. I just want to stay out of trouble and help the 18 and the 20 out."
