Pepsi 400 - Daytona International Speedway

Biffle Pulls a Shocker at Daytona
Rookie Greg Biffle rolled the dice on fuel mileage and came away a winner on Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway. Biffle’s winning fuel strategy consisted of a pit stop under the caution flag on lap 79 to top off the fuel tank just before the race returned to green flag conditions. From that point, Biffle was able to finish the race with only one more pit stop, while most of the field would have to stop twice. Biffle, a former Craftsman Truck and Busch Series champion, won for the first time in his Winston Cup career and becomes the only first-time winner of the 2003 season to date. Biffle outdistanced teammate Jeff Burton by 4.102 seconds to take the checkered flag in the Pepsi 400. Biffle led 21 of the event’s 160 laps, while Kevin Harvick lead the most laps on the night, pacing the field for 54 laps. Jeff Burton and Ricky Rudd each netted their top finishes of the season, finishing second and third respectively, giving Jack Roush engines a sweep of the top three positions. The Labonte brothers rounded out the top five, with Terry finishing fourth and Bobby limping home fifth after running out of gas on the final lap.
