Tropicana 400 - Kenny Wallace Notes

"This will only be my second Winston Cup race at Chicagoland in a Winston Cup car, but I did start the first two Busch Series races at the track, so I do have a lot of laps around there for a new track. Even though we race at a lot of mile and a half tracks throughout the season, each track does have their own characteristics. With Chicago being such a new track, passing will still be a chore. You'll need a good handling car to be able to pass, but even so, that will be hard because the best way around the track will be at the bottom, so you'll see a lot of single file racing, I think. We've worked really hard at having a competitive package this weekend for our Stacker 2 car, so I'm optimistic about our chances this weekend." - Kenny Wallace, driver of the No. 23 Stacker 2 Dodge

CHICAGOLAND SPEEDWAY

CREW CHIEF PHILIPPE LOPEZ ON CHICAGO.
"Chicago is one of those tracks where you have to get through the corners fast to be successful. The track is still new, so it will hard to pass there, which makes pit road calls very important. The race may come down to a tire call, so you'll see most Cup crew chiefs playing close attention to Saturday's Busch race to see how the tires wear and the calls they make.

"Last year at Chicago we couldn't get our car soft enough. This year we've got better ground clearance and tire clearance, so we should be able to run the springs we need to run this year. Chicago is a typical downforce track where you need to have a very soft front and a very stiff rear. We've been improving steadily on that combination this season, so I'm looking forward to seeing what this weekend brings."

EQUIPMENT
The Stacker 2 Racing is taking the same car to Chicago this weekend that competed earlier this year at Rockingham, Darlington, Bristol and Dover. It posted a top-10 finish at Bristol.

INDY TESTING
Wallace and his Stacker 2 Racing team will test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Monday and Tuesday immediately following the race at Chicagoland Speedway.

"We are taking two brand new cars, car No. 73 and car No. 75, to the test at Indianapolis," said crew chief, Philippe Lopez. "Despite the fact they are both brand new, the cars are totally different. We tested them both at Kentucky Speedway and two cars had vastly different characteristics because we built them with completely different bodies. What is interesting is they both ran the exact same times during the test at Kentucky. My perception is that one was better on the straightaways and one was better in the turns. We plan on testing them both at Indianapolis and if they both post the same times again, then we'll take whatever car Kenny is most comfortable with when we return to the race."
