GREG BIFFLE, NO. 16 GRAINGER FORD:
"I got completely sideways down there in three and four and thought I was
going to spin out gut got it saved. I ended up doing a 27 or something like
that. I guess not bad, but I feel bad. I overdrove the corner a little bit, I
guess. Hopefully it will rain. It's cooled off a bunch. If it keeps cooling
down we'll be in provisional land if it doesn't rain." DOES THE CHANGE IN
WEATHER MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE HERE? "It's going to speed up. I don't think that
will be the pole. I think you will see somebody beat that."
TONY RAINES, NO. 74 BACE MOTORSPORTS CHEVROLET:
"I give all the credit to the crew because we were absolutely terrible when
we unloaded. We made a bunch of changes in practice and we made a bunch of
changes before qualifying. I was involved but they made all the changes and all
the changes were in the right direction. The car was pretty good, obviously
the best that it's been. I was pretty surprised to run a 16. That's the
fastest that I've ever been around here so I'm pretty please with the team." YOU
WILL GET A GOOD STARTING SPOT AND PIT SELECTION HERE SATURDAY NIGHT. "That
would be nice. We had a pretty decent car here for the spring race and we broke
early. I'd like to run this race, the while race, because I think if I drive
smart we could come out of here with a good finish and that would be awesome."
WHY DO YOU RUN SO WELL HERE? "Growing up in the Midwest and running
Anderson, Winchester, and Salem is a lot like Bristol. I've always had more luck on
the high banks that the flat tracks. I first time I came here I liked it and
I'm not going to change." IS THIS THE SAME CAR YOU HAD HERE IN THE SPRING?
"This is the same car that we had here in the spring. It's not got the same
setup in it though that it had on it in the spring. We have a different motor
and it seems to be working pretty good." DID THE COOLER WEATHER HELP YOU?
"I'm sure that that will help times pick up. If we end up in the top-10 I'd be
surprised but I think some good cars will go on later and really run some good
laps. From where we unloaded to where we ended up I think that's just a
testament to the team."
JAMIE MCMURRAY, NO. 42 HAVOLINE DODGE:
"I'm not really happy with that lap at all. We picked up a little from
practice, but not near enough as everyone else. I feel like we have a good car, we
just can't seem to get a good qualifying lap in. The Havoline Dodge will just
have to work its way up to the front tomorrow night."
LARRY FOYT, NO. 50 HARRAH'S DODGE:
"I'm still sticking with my guys: if we qualifying on time I'm a happy man
and I think we will be. We just have to beat a couple more cars. We picked up
from practice. I always felt like the car was decent and we ran out fastest
lap on some older tires. I knew with stickers I thought we'd be pretty good.
I think maybe we're just getting it all together. Ray (Evernham) is giving
us great engines right now. I think he knew it was going to take time for his
guys to get caught up because they weren't really ready to do another car this
year and that's been better. I've noticed a big difference in that. We're
getting our bodies better. Everything is just kind of coming together. We're
still going to have weekends where we're going to struggle but everything is
getting better and we're just showing improvement which is what we've got to
do." DO YOU LIKE THIS TRACK? "I do. I hated to miss the race the first time
here. We weren't great in practice and I was a little bit worried but the
adjustments we made were the right way and I think I'm learning how the drive the
place better. I think everything is coming together. Like I said, we're going
to have weekends where we struggle. Last week was great: we qualified 14th
and had a good racecar. We just didn't do too well in the pits. But I told my
guys 'You've watched me go backwards enough. I'm not mad at you.' (laughs).
It was all good."
LARRY CARTER, CREW CHIEF, NO. 74 BACE MOTORSPORTS CHEVROLET:
"I definitely think our team is headed in a good direction now. Tony is
doing a good job, the guys are doing a good job. They are focused on what we are
trying to do. We're trying to steadily get better as we go." HOW IMPORTANT
IS IT TO QUALIFY WELL HERE BECAUSE OF PIT SELECTION? "You definitely need to
qualify on the frontstretch or at least be good enough to get one of the first
or second openings on the back. It's real big. Qualifying near the front is
big here anyway because if you start near the back it's hard to get track
position so if you can start up near the front at least you can start with the
track position and try to keep it." IS IT SPECIAL TO RUN WELL AT
THIS RACE? "It's a big race, no doubt. It's one of the crown jewels of the
season. It's a big race."
