Sharpie 500 - Elliott Sadler Notes

SADLER, TEAM LOOKING FOR RIGHT “COMBO”NATION AT BRISTOL

ELLIOTT SADLER’S VIEW FROM THE DRIVER’S SEAT:

“The Sharpie 500 is my favorite race of the year next to the Daytona 500. Bristol, of course, has a special place in my heart because it’s where my first win was. I always think of Bristol as a huge cereal bowl – there is just so much excitement there. Where else can you find 180,000 people packed into a half-mile track like Bristol? There isn’t anything like it.

“On a driver, this race is real physical – imagine turning left 2,000 times – its just real physical. I think the real racing at Bristol starts around laps 200 -300. I try to stay out of trouble, keep the fenders on the car, and stay up front during the first part of the race. You have to race smart at Bristol to be able to be there at the end. It’s a race where there is a ton of beating and banging and you have to have good communication with your crew chief and spotter so you can stay out of trouble. It’s important to keep up because it only takes about three laps for cars to start going a lap down. Last race at Bristol we ran okay until a piece of debris from someone else’s car got wedged in my car. That is the stupid stuff you hope doesn’t happen - but its Bristol – so anything can happen.”

CREW CHIEF RAYMOND FOX’S VIEW FROM THE PIT BOX:

“We are taking the same car this team finished third with in the Sharpie 500 last year. I think if we qualify well, stay out front and out of trouble all night long, we will be okay.”

SPOTTER BRETT GRIFFIN’S VIEW FROM ABOVE THE TRACK:

“Bristol is my favorite track on the circuit. It's fast, non-stop action from the time the guys leave pit road until the end of the race. Everything is always a few seconds in front of the drivers because Bristol is so small, but yet so fast. There are 150,000 screaming fans and lots of fireworks for them to watch. When you hear the crowd scream, that means there's a pass for the lead or a huge wreck. Bristol is even more exciting at night. Either way it always gets my attention.”
