Samsung/Radio Shack 500 - Texas Motor Speedway
Kenseth Wins Samsung/RadioShack 500
Matt Kenseth came from worst to first on Monday at Texas. Kenseth, who started from the rear of the field after an engine change on Friday, won the rain-delayed Samsung/RadioShack 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Kenseth led 84 of the event's 334 laps to win for the second time this season, the third win of his career. Defending Winston Cup champion Jeff Gordon notched his best finish of the season, bringing his Chevrolet home in the second spot. Kenseth's teammate Mark Martin equaled his season's best, finishing third, while Ricky Rudd and Tony Stewart made out the top five. Kenseth edged closer to point-leader Sterling Marlin in the chase for the championship, now trailing by 70 points.
Elliott Roars to Texas Pole
Bill Elliott is fast and it seems the faster the track, the better. Elliott roared to his second pole position of the 2002 season, both coming at the two fastest tracks on the circuit so far. Elliott's super-quick lap of 27.803 seconds, at an average speed of 194.224 mph, shattered the previous track record at the Texas Motor Speedway. Elliott Sadler will start from the outside-pole position, while Ricky Rudd and Michael Waltrip, who qualified in the exact same time, make out row two. The pole is the 53rd career top-starting spot for Elliott.
