Chevrolet Monte Carlo 400 - Richmond International Raceway

Kenseth Captures Fourth Win of Season
Matt Kenseth
Matt Kenseth
Matt Kenseth came from a lap down, not once, but twice to capture the win in the Chevrolet Monte Carlo 400 at Richmond International Raceway. Kenseth overcame two flat right-front tires in the first half of the race only to regroup and win for the fourth time this season. Kenseth stretched his fuel for 126 laps and held off rookie Ryan Newman to claim the eighth win in his career. For Newman the runner-up finish is his second in as many races and third in the last five events. Jeff Green and Daffy Duck won the Golf Cart Race on Friday and the duo combined to net the third spot on Saturday night. The top-five finishing order was rounded out by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Todd Bodine. Point-leader Sterling Marlin finished 43rd on the night and now holds a slim nine-point lead over Mark Martin in the chase for the title.

Johnson Takes Pole at RIR
Rookie phenom Jimmy Johnson will lead the field to the green flag on Saturday night, taking the pole position for the Chevrolet Monte Carlo 400 at Richmond International Raceway. Johnson qualified in 21.404 seconds, at an average speed of 126.145 mph, to score his fourth pole this season, tying him with Bill Elliott for the series lead. The Penske-Jasper Engines duo of Ryan Newman and Dave Blaney had the exact same qualifying time, with Newman getting the outside pole thanks to his higher standings in the points. Blaney will start from the third spot while Mark Martin starts fourth.
