Stewart, starting from the rear of the field after an engine change, worked his way to the lead with 28 laps remaining and never looked back. Stewart easily outdistanced rookie Ryan Newman to take the checkered flag for the 14th time in his career. Newman held on to the second spot, equaling his career-best finish. The Roush Racing teammates of Jeff Burton and Mark Martin finished third and fourth respectively, while Jeremy Mayfield made out the top five. The win is the second of the season for Stewart and his third career victory at Richmond.
