Hut Stricklin Event Preview
Martinsville Speedway - April 14, 2002
Hut Stricklin On Martinsville: Hut Stricklin, driver of the No. 23 Hills Bros. Coffee Dodge, says Martinsville brings him back to his racing roots.
"Martinsville Speedway is one of my favorite tracks because it is a lot like the track I grew up on racing, Birmingham International Raceway (BIR)," said Stricklin. "Both are relatively flat and the about the same size, however Birmingham is a little bigger at 5/8-mile. We raced at BIR every Friday night for about eight years. You have to take care of your brakes to be successful at Martinsville, but like any short track, track position is everything, so qualifying is really important. Martinsville is a fun place to drive, challenging, and a place that once the driver gets his rhythm down, he'll really run good. Sometimes you have to use your bumper there which can make it interesting for the fans."
Martinsville Speedway Testing: Stricklin and the Hills Bros. Racing team did not test at Martinsville Speedway, however, they took the car they are racing this weekend to Caraway Speedway located in Asheboro, N.C. to "shake down" the car on Tuesday, April 9th.
Martinsville Hot Dogs: Martinsville Speedway is known for their legendary hot dogs. Stricklin is committed to his health by working out and eating right everyday, but when he goes to Martinsville, he makes an exception to his diet by fitting in a few of those hot dogs during the weekend.
"About two years ago, I made a lifestyle change where I made a commitment to my health and started eating right and working out," said Stricklin. "However, at Martinsville I come off my diet and indulge in those famous Martinsville hot dogs. They are too good to pass up!"
Car History for the Car Slated to Run This Weekend: The Hills Bros. Coffee Racing team is taking the same car to Martinsville that was raced last year by Dave Blaney in the spring Martinsville race and the spring Richmond race.
