Jarrett Takes Checkered Flag at Michigan
Dale Jarrett
Dale Jarrett
Exactly eleven years to the date of his first win at Michigan International Speedway, Dale Jarrett made another visit to victory lane. Jarrett passed Jeff Burton with four laps to go and went on to win the Pepsi 400 by 2.285 seconds ahead of Tony Stewart. For Jarrett, the win was the fourth victory of his career at Michigan and the second win of the 2002 season. After winning at Watkins Glen last weekend, Stewart backed up that effort with a second-place run at MIS. Kevin Harvick came home in the third spot, while Burton and Mark Martin rounded out the top-five finishers. Winston Cup points leader Sterling Marlin finished in the sixth position and takes a 43-point lead to Bristol.

Earnhardt Jr. on Pole at Michigan as Chevrolet Sweeps Top Five
Fresh on the heels of the rule change that gave the Chevrolet teams an increase of one inch on front air dam, Chevrolet swept the top-five starting spots for the Pepsi 400, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. leading the way. Earnhardt Jr. qualified at 189.668 mph, a lap of 37.961 seconds, to secure his first pole of the season and the fifth of his career. The top five went to two teams; DEI and RCR. Kevin Harvick will join Junior on the front row, starting from the outside pole, while Earnhardt's teammates Michael Waltrip and Steve Park start in the second row. Harvick's teammate Robby Gordon rounded out the top five.
