Elliott Dominates Brickyard, Claims Back-to-Back Wins
"Awesome" Bill Elliott is awesome again. Elliott won the prestigious Brickyard 400 at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway in dominating fashion. Elliott led for 93 of the event's 160 laps to claim his second win in a row and the 43rd of his Winston Cup Career. Elliott outdistanced Rusty Wallace by 1.2 seconds to win at Indy for the first time in his career. Wallace put on a valiant effort after taking two tires on his final pit stop but finished second to Elliott who had taken four. Matt Kenseth finished in the third position, while rookie Ryan Newman and Kevin Harvick finished in the top five.
Stewart Roars to Indy Pole
Rushville, Indiana native Tony Stewart put on a pleasant show for his hometown fans, winning the pole position for the prestigious Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Stewart blistered a lap in 49.191 seconds, at an average speed of 182.960 mph, to set the new track record at IMS. The pole is the second of the 2002 season for Stewart, who also has two wins.
