Tropicana 400 - Chicagoland Speedway
Harvick Repeats at Chicagoland
Kevin Harvick used fuel mileage to turn his luck around, repeating as winner of the Tropicana 400 at Chicagoland Speedway. Harvick elected not to pit on the final pit stop, stretching his fuel for the last 67 laps, and held off Jeff Gordon to become the only winner at Chicago. Harvick won for the first time this season and for the third time in his two-year career. Gordon crossed the finish line in the runner-up position, coming home second, while Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, and Ryan Newman made out the top five. Point's leader Sterling Marlin finished 16th, one lap down, and now leads Mark Martin by only 49 points heading to Loudon.
Newman Takes Chicagoland Pole
Ryan Newman won the Busch Grand National pole position at Chicagoland last season, while Todd Bodine sat on the pole for the Winston Cup race. This year the roles are reversed. After Bodine won the BGN pole earlier in the day, Newman grabbed the pole on the Cup side. Newman turned in a qualifying lap of 29.500 seconds, at an average speed of 183.051 mph, to score his second pole of the season, the third of his career. Kurt Busch will start from the outside pole, followed by Bill Elliott and Sterling Marlin in row two.
