Food City 500 - Bristol Motor Speedway
Busch Takes First Win at Bristol
Super Sophomore Kurt Busch won his first Winston Cup race in his 48th start, taking the checkered flag in the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Busch led for 89 of the race's 500 laps to win in only his third career start at Bristol. Busch outdistanced Jimmy Spencer to become the fifth different winner of the 2002 season. Following the second-place Spencer to the stripe was Ricky Rudd in third, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Bobby Labonte making out the top five. Point leader Sterling Marlin finished 19th but still holds on to the top spot in the standings, leading Matt Kenseth by 99 points.
Gordon Takes Pole at Thunder Valley
It's an all-Gordon front row for Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Defending Winston Cup champion Jeff Gordon will start from the pole position after qualifying in 15.083 seconds, at an average speed of 127.216 mph, breaking the track record. The pole is the first of Gordon's career at Bristol and his 39th overall. Robby Gordon will join Jeff on the front row, starting from the outside pole, while the Dodges of Jeremy Mayfield and Jimmy Spencer make out row two.
