Stewart Wins Atlanta
Tony Stewart claimed his first career win at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, holding off Dale Earnhardt Jr. to take the checkered flag for the MBNA America 500 on Sunday. Stewart led 143 of the event's 325 laps on the way to his 13th career victory in the Winston Cup series. The win was the sixth for Joe Gibbs Racing at the Atlanta track. Earnhardt's second-place effort was his best career finish at Atlanta and rookie Jimmie Johnson scored his best finish to date, coming home in the third spot. Matt Kenseth celebrated his 30th birthday with a fourth-place finish, while Ricky Craven finished fifth.
Elliott Wins Atlanta Pole
Home Sweet Home. Georgia native Bill Elliott won the pole position for the MBNA America 500 at his "home track" of Atlanta Motor Speedway.
