Gordon Wins The Winston, Again
Jeff Gordon drove a backup car to the checkered flag in The Winston at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Gordon won NASCAR's all-star race for third time, tying him with the late Dale Earnhardt for the most wins in The Winston. Rain fell as the cars took the green flag, causing several cars to wreck, including the 24 Chevrolet of Gordon. NASCAR allowed all cars involved to pull out their backup cars to compete in the event, Gordon put his in Victory Lane. Dale Jarrett crossed the finish line in second, while Tony Stewart, Bobby Labonte, and Jerry Nadeau rounded out the top five. Jeremy Mayfield won the first 30-lap segment and Tony Stewart took the win in segment two.
