Dodge/Save Mart 350 - Sears Point Raceway
Stewart Wins First Road-Course Race at Sonoma
Tony Stewart outran the Gordons to win the Dodge/Save Mart 350 at Sears Point Raceway. Stewart, who was only in his fifth start on a road course, held off two established road racers in Robby Gordon and Jeff Gordon to win for the second time this season. The win is the first victory for Stewart on a road course and the first for Joe Gibbs Racing. Robby Gordon, who appeared on his way to victory until a late-race tangle with the lapped car of Kevin Harvick, would finish second, while Jeff Gordon finished third. The Fords of Ricky Rudd and Rusty Wallace would round out the top five in the finishing order.
Gordon Runs to Pole at Sears Point
Jeff Gordon, who has six road-course wins to his credit, will start from the pole position for the Dodge/Save Mart 350 at Sears Point Raceway. Gordon's lap of 76.842 seconds, at an average speed of 93.699, around the two-mile, twelve-turn track gave him his fifth start at the top of the field this season. Rusty Wallace, who also owns six road-course wins, will start along-side Gordon from the outside pole, while the teammates of Tony Stewart and Bobby Labonte start from the second row.
