Chevrolet Monte Carlo 400 - Richmond International Raceway
Wallace Dominates but Rudd Wins at Richmond
Rusty Wallace might have dominated the Chevrolet Monte Carlo 400 at Richmond International Raceway but it was Ricky Rudd who claimed the victory. Wallace led for 276 of 400 laps but bobbled late in the race and slipped to fifth, while Rudd took the lead. Rookie Kevin Harvick made contact with Rudd in the closing laps and went out in front, but Rudd used a bump-and-run of his own a few laps later to regain the lead and take the win. The win is the second of the season for Rudd and his second career win at Richmond. Harvick came home second, followed by Dale Earnhardt Jr. in third, Dale Jarrett and Wallace rounded out the top five.
Gordon Bags Pole at Richmond
Jeff Gordon put his Chevrolet Monte Carlo on the pole position for the Chevrolet Monte Carlo 400 at Richmond International Raceway. Gordon turned in a qualifying lap of 21.617 seconds, at an average speed of 124.902 mph, to grab the top starting spot. Gordon will lead the field to the green flag for the seventh time this season. Rusty Wallace will start from the outside-pole position, while Sterling Marlin and Jeff Burton make out the second row.
