Pennsylvania 500 - Pocono Raceway
Labonte Wins at Pocono
Defending Winston Cup champion Bobby Labonte visited Victory Lane for the first time this season, taking the checkered flag in the Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway. Labonte made a late-race pass of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and held on to win by 1.680 seconds. Labonte led for only four laps on the day but was out front for the only one that counted, the final one. Jeff Gordon led the most laps, leading 121 of 200 circuits. Earnhardt Jr. crossed the line in second, followed by Labonte's teammate Tony Stewart in third. Bill Elliott scored his season-best finish, coming home in fourth, while Johnny Benson rounded out the top five, giving Pontiac three of the top five spots.
Bodine on Pocono Pole
Todd Bodine lead a trio of Fords at the top of the qualifying charts for the Pennsylvania 500 at Pococno. Bodine tuned in a lap of 52.840 seconds, an average speed of 170.326 mph, to grab his second pole position in three weeks, the third of his career. The Fords of Ricky Rudd and Mark Martin will start second and third respectively, followed by the Pontiac of Ken Schrader in fourth.
