Pennsylvania 500 - Pocono Raceway

Labonte Wins at Pocono
Defending Winston Cup champion Bobby Labonte visited Victory Lane for the first time this season, taking the checkered flag in the Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway. Labonte made a late-race pass of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and held on to win by 1.680 seconds. Labonte led for only four laps on the day but was out front for the only one that counted, the final one. Jeff Gordon led the most laps, leading 121 of 200 circuits. Earnhardt Jr. crossed the line in second, followed by Labonte's teammate Tony Stewart in third. Bill Elliott scored his season-best finish, coming home in fourth, while Johnny Benson rounded out the top five, giving Pontiac three of the top five spots.
