Pocono 500 - Pocono Raceway
Rudd Ends Drought With Pocono Victory
Ricky Rudd snapped an 88-race winless streak by passing Dale Jarrett for the lead with less than 25 laps remaining to win the Pocono 500 at Pocono Raceway. Rudd was able to hold off Jeff Gordon to claim his first win in 49 races with Robert Yates Racing. It was the first win for Rudd at Pocono and the 21st win of his career. Gordon continued his hot streak, finishing second, while Rudd's teammate Dale Jarrett came home in third. Sterling Marlin was, once again, the highest finishing Dodge, while the Ford of Mark Martin rounded out the top five.
Rudd Nabs Pocono Pole
Ricky Rudd roared to the pole position at Pocono International Raceway, notching the top starting spot for Sunday's Pocono 500. Rudd turned in a super-quick lap of 52.785 seconds, at an average speed of 170.503 mph, to beat second-place starter Sterling Marlin by almost two mph. While Marlin starts from the outside pole, the Pontiacs of Ken Schrader and Tony Stewart make out row two. The pole is the first for Rudd this season and the 27th of his career.
