Joe Nemechek claimed career win number two on Sunday, winning the Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn 400 at North Carolina Speedway. Nemechek outdistanced pole-setter Kenny Wallace by 6.285 seconds to win for the first time since July 1999. Nemechek was out front for 196 of the race's 393 laps, earning the bonus points for leading the most laps. Wallace's second place effort gave him his third top-ten finish in the Pennzoil Chevrolet. Wallace Wins North Carolina Pole
Kenny Wallace had a "front row" kind of day on Friday at Rockingham, North Carolina. Not long after capturing the outside pole for the Busch race, Wallace bettered that effort by winning the pole position for the Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn 400. Wallace averaged 154.690 mph around the 1.017-mile track, a time of 23.668 seconds, giving him his first pole of the season, the third of his career. Ricky Craven will join Wallace on the front row, starting second, while Casey Atwood and Jerry Nadeau start from row two.
