Pepsi 400 Presented by Meijer - Michigan International Speedway
Marlin "Rains" at Michigan
Sterling Marlin gave Dodge its first Winston Cup win in more than two decades, winning the rain-shortened Pepsi 400 presented by Meijer at Michigan International Speedway. Marlin used the assist from Mother Nature to break a 170-race winless streak and score his seventh career win, his first since Daytona 1996. Marlin took the lead from Bill Elliott on lap 145 and led the remainder of the shortened race at the two-mile track. Pole-winner Ricky Craven finished a strong second, while the Dodge of Elliott came home third. Matt Kenseth and Johnny Benson rounded out the top five in the race that completed 162 of the scheduled 200 laps.
Craven Takes Pole at Michigan
Surprise! Ricky Craven will lead the field to the green flag for the Pepsi 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday. Craven, who was the last car to qualify, will start from the pole position for the first time this season. Craven turned in a qualifying lap in 38.272 seconds, at an average speed of 188.127 mph, grabbing his first pole since 1998 and the fourth of his career. Bill Elliott will join Craven on the front row, starting from the outside pole, while Ricky Rudd and Elliott Sadler make out row two.
