Virginia 500 - Martinsville Speedway

 

Jarrett Wins Again
Dale Jarrett claimed his series-leading third win of the 2001 season, taking the checkered flag in the Virginia 500 at Martinsville. Jarrett held off teammate Ricky Rudd to win his second race in a row and his first at Martinsville Speedway. Following Rudd to the finish line were Jeff Burton, Bobby Hamilton, and Sterling Marlin. The victory is the 27th career win for Jarrett, who extended his point lead to 123 points over second-place Jeff Gordon.

Gordon on Martinsville Pole
Jeff Gordon roared to his 36th career pole position, taking the top starting spot for the Virginia 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Gordon turned in a qualifying lap of 20.126 seconds, at an average speed of 94.087, to claim his third pole of the 2001 season. Rusty Wallace will start from the outside-pole position, followed by Jeff Burton and Ricky Rudd in row two.
