Coca-Cola 600 - Lowe's Motor Speedway

 

Burton Breaks Through at Charlotte
Jeff Burton finally broke into the win column this season, taking the checkered flag in NASCAR's longest race, the Coca-Cola 600. Burton beat rookie Kevin Harvick to the finish line by 3.19 seconds, to win the 600 for the second time in his career. Burton led for 126 of the race's 400 laps and claimed his 16th career victory. Following second-place Harvick to the finish line were; Tony Stewart, completing the Indy-Charlotte double, Mark Martin, and Bobby Labonte.

Newman Wins Pole For Coca-Cola 600
Ryan Newman won his first NASCAR Winston Cup pole after enduring a lengthy rain delay in Coca-Cola 600 qualifying at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC. Newman, making only his third Winston Cup start, turned in a qualifying lap of 29.155 seconds, at an average speed of 185.217 mph, to grab the pole position. Jeff Gordon will join Newman on the front row of the starting grid, starting from the outside pole, while Todd Bodine and Bill Elliott start from the second row.
