Pennzoil Freedom 400 - Homestead-Miami Speedway
Elliott Awesome at Homestead
Bill Elliott is awesome once again! "Awesome" Bill Elliott passed teammate Casey Atwood with five laps remaining and cruised to the checkered flag in the Pennzoil Freedom 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Elliott won for the first time in 227 races, with his last win coming at Darlington in 1994. Elliott, who started from the pole position, led 59 of the event's 267 laps and captured his 41st career victory. Tony Stewart, a two-time winner at Miami, led the most laps on the day, staying out front for 72 circuits. Michael Waltrip followed Elliott to the stripe, bringing his Chevrolet home in second place. Atwood would finish in the third spot, while Jeff Burton and Sterling Marlin rounded out the top five.
Elliott Leads Dodge Dominance at Homestead
Bill Elliott led the Dodge brigade during qualifying for the Pennzoil Freedom 400 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway. Elliott will start the race on Sunday from the pole position, qualifying in 34.788 seconds, at an average speed of 155.226 mph, to grab his second pole of the season. Casey Atwood will make out the all-Evernham front row, starting alongside his teammate in the second spot. John Andretti will start third, while Ricky Rudd and Sterling Marlin make out the top-five starting positions. Dodge dominated the time trials, taking four of the top-five starting spots and placing six cars in the top ten.
