Pepsi 400 - Daytona International Speedway
Junior Dominates Daytona
At the same track that took the life of his father four months ago, Dale Earnhradt Jr. dominated the Daytona International Speedway to win the Pepsi 400. Earnhardt Jr. led for 116 of the race's 160 laps, while having the strongest car on the night. The win is the first of the season for Earnhardt Jr. and the third of his career. DEI teammate Michael Waltrip finished in the second spot, a reversal of roles from the Daytona 500 in which Waltrip won and Junior finished second. Elliott Sadler came home in third, followed by Ward Burton and Bobby Labonte.

Marlin on Pepsi 400 Pole
Sterling Marlin led a quartet of Dodge Intrepids at the top of the starting lineup for the Pepsi 400 at Daytona. Marlin turned in a qualifying lap of 48.972 seconds, at an average speed of 183.778 mph, to take his fourth pole position at Daytona International Speedway. The top-starting spot gives Dodge a sweep of the restrictor plate poles this season. Rain postponed qualifying for more than three hours after 37 cars had made qualifying attempts. Ward Burton will start from the outside pole, followed by Stacy Compton and rookie Casey Atwood in the second row. Jeff Gordon was the highest non-Dodge to qualify, nabbing the fifth spot.
