Budweiser Shootout - Daytona
Stewart Wins Shootout
Tony Stewart, competing in only his second Budweiser Shootout, held off Dale Earnhardt on the final lap to take the victory in the 70-lap race. Stewart, who led for 36 laps, became the first Pontiac driver to win the Shootout and the 14th winner of the race. Earnhardt finished second in a Chevrolet, while the Ford's of Rusty Wallace, Dale Jarrett, and Jeff Burton rounded out the top five.
Schrader to Start from Shootout Pole
Ken Schrader, driver of the No. 36 M&M's Pontiac, got lucky with Budweiser's Vegas-style slot machines on Thursday when he was awarded the pole for this Sunday's Budweiser Shootout at Daytona. Schrader won the 1989 and 1990 Budweiser Shootout. Dale Earnhardt, the winningest driver in Daytona International Speedway's history with 34 victories, took the outside pole for the Budweiser Shootout. Rounding the top five were Dale Jarrett, Mark Martin and Steve Park.
