SharpieŽ 500 - Bristol Motor Speedway
Stewart Wins at Thunder Valley
Tony Stewart claimed his first victory at the famed Bristol Motor Speedway, holding off Kevin Harvick to win the Sharpie 500. Stewart beat Harvick to the finish line by .48 seconds to win for the third time this season, the 12th win of his career. Stewart led for 71 of the event's 500 laps, while points leader Jeff Gordon led the most laps, staying out front for 199 circuits. Gordon would finish in the third position and continue to pad his lead in the point standings, he now leads Ricky Rudd by 308 points. Rudd finished behind Gordon in fourth place, while Rusty Wallace rounded out the top five.
Green Claims First Cup Pole at Bristol
Jeff Green won his first Winston Cup pole position on Friday, taking the top starting position for the Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Green, who will start third in tonight's Busch race, qualified in 15.515 seconds, at an average speed of 123.674 mph. Green's teammate Mike Skinner will start beside him from the outside pole, while Ron Hornaday starts third. Elliott Sadler, who won the spring race at BMS, qualified in the fourth spot and Ricky Rudd rounded out the top five.
