"The Really Scarrry Sequel" Features NASCAR Drivers

ATLANTA, Oct. 6, 2000 - While the thought of racing around a track at 200 miles per hour is enough to get anyone's heart pumping, NASCAR drivers will give race fans a different kind of thrill in movie theaters across the country this fall. In a new pre-feature entertainment piece spoofing classic monster movies, the Coca-Cola Racing Family drivers have traded in their helmets for claws and fangs.

Coca-Cola's new movie short entitled, "The Really Scarrry Sequel," features Dale Earnhardt, Bobby Labonte, Dale Jarrett, Jeff Burton, Bill Elliott, Tony Stewart and Steve Park dressed as characters from Universal Studios monster classics such as The Wolf Man, Dracula, The Mummy, Frankenstein and The Birds.

For example, in one scene, Stewart plays Dr. Frankenstein while Labonte is cast as the monster. Another scene has Earnhardt coordinating "special effects" while Jarrett avoids ravenous birds. Park, Burton, Jarrett and Elliott each try their hand as Dracula, and Labonte, Park and Burton all don werewolf costumes for a segment that should elicit more laughter than fear. Shot in Charlotte this past June, the pre-feature entertainment piece will be shown on thousands of movie screens across the country beginning October 6, prior to the upcoming Halloween season. One lucky race fan, Jennifer Shults from Charlotte, won the chance to be an extra in the movie short after impressing Bill Elliott during a lighthearted amateur casting call audition in May.

While it's apparent that none of the drivers should quit their day job, they certainly had fun shooting the segment.

"It's our acting skills that are really scary," joked Labonte, the current Winston Cup points leader. "But Halloween is a great holiday and we all had a good time re-living scenes from our favorite monster flicks." Through its association with tracks and racing teams, The Coca-Cola Company and its bottling partners have been involved in NASCAR for more than 30 years. The Company is title sponsor of the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte. The Company sponsored cars from 1969-76 under the Coca-Cola and Mellow Yellow brands, respectively.
