Roush Drivers on Helton's New Appointment

NASCAR announced yesterday the promotion of several officials within the organization, including Mike Helton becoming only the third president in NASCAR history. We asked the Roush Racing drivers their thoughts on Helton's new appointment.

Mark Martin, No. 6 Valvoline/Cummins Taurus:

"I think Mike will do a great job in that capacity. He is really in touch with everyone in the sport, including the competitors, track owners and the racing itself. He has been a great asset to the organization and I'm really pleased that he will be the one to continue the success and tradition of NASCAR racing. "

Matt Kenseth, No. 17 DeWalt Taurus:

"Congratulations to Mike Helton. He's been with NASCAR long time and even though I've only been on the Cup circuit one year, it seems like he's done a great job. He did a lot for the Busch Series in the few years I raced with them full time. Mike's always been fair with us and it's important to have a guy with a lot of experience and knowledge to lead an organization of this caliber."

Kurt Busch, No. 97 John Deere Taurus:

"NASCAR is one of the most competitive sports in the world and as a result of its entertainment value it's still growing in popularity. I think this new structure will definitely add long-term stability and provide the foundation for long-term growth. NASCAR has some big plans ahead of itself for next season that include new race venues and a new TV deal, so as the company continues to grow so does the administrative body. Mike (Helton) has proven his competence over the years, and I feel increased job security now that he has taken the reins."

Jeff Burton, No. 99 Citgo SUPERGUARD Taurus:

"I'm excited about it. Mike has proven to be a listener and can look at every side of an issue. He is very objective and has the vision necessary to take the sport to the next level. I think it was a great move by NASCAR. I also think they made a good decision with moving George Pyne to Daytona as senior vice president. He ranks high in my books and is able to really get a job done."

Greg Biffle, No. 60 Grainger Taurus:

"I think the appointing of Mike Helton to NASCAR president is a great thing. All of my dealings with Mr. Helton have been positive and I think he's the right man to take over for Bill France. Good things come from change and I think he has a lot to offer to the sport. He really did a good job with the Craftsman Truck Series this year with the help of Kevin Triplett and Wayne Auton, and I know he will continue to do many great things for all of the NASCAR sanctioned series. I'd like to extend a congratulations to Mr. Helton who definitely deserves this honor."
