DirecTV 500 - Texas
Junior Wins First
Dale Earnhardt Jr. won his first Winston Cup race in only his 12th attempt, a modern-day record, and did it in dominating fashion. Earnhardt Jr. beat second place Jeff Burton to the checkered flag by 5.92 seconds to win the DirecTV 500 going away. Junior claimed his first WC win at the same track that he scored his first Busch Grand National victory, at Texas Motor Speedway.
Texas Terry Grabs Pole in Home State
Terry Labonte is at home in Texas. Labonte's last win came one year ago at the Texas Motor Speedway, this time he grabbed the pole position. Labonte turned a lap around the Texas track in 28.105 seconds, at a speed of 192.137 mph. Kevin Lepage will join Labonte on the front row, followed by Scott Pruett and Dale Earnhardt Jr. in row two.
