Pontiac Excitement 400 - Richmond
Earnhardt Jr. Becomes First Repeat Winner
Who woulda thunk it? Rookie Dale Earnhardt Jr. puts an end to the streak, becoming the first repeat winner of the 2000 season. Earnhardt Jr. was able to hold off Terry Labonte by a mere .159 seconds to take his second win in only 16 Winston Cup starts. Earnhardt Jr. becomes only the third driver to have multiple wins in his rookie season, joining Tony Stewart and Davey Allison.
Wallace on Richmond Pole
Rusty Wallace became the first three-time pole winner of the 2000 season, taking the top starting spot for the Pontiac Excitement 400 at Richmond. Wallace's lap of 21.645 seconds, at 124.740 mph, gave him his third career pole at Richmond. Steve Park will join Wallace on the front row, while Mike Skinner and Geoffrey Bodine start from the second row.
