CarsDirect.com 400 - Las Vegas
Burton Gives Ford 500th Win
Jeff Burton's win in today's rain-shortened CarsDirect.com 400 was
an historic one as Ford became the first manufacturer to register 500
all-time wins in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. The win was the 12th of Burton's NASCAR Winston Cup career. It also marked the third rain-shortened win for Burton in the last year after posting consecutive triumphs at Darlington during the 1999 season. In addition,
Roush Racing's streak of wins at Las Vegas Motor Speedway was extended to
five.
Rudd on Vegas Pole
Ricky Rudd will start from the front row for the third time this season, this time from the pole position. Rudd set a new track record with a lap of 31.293 seconds, at 172.563 mph. Rudd will lead the field to the green flag for the CarsDirect.com 400 on Sunday, Scott Pruett will start from the outside pole, followed by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Bobby Labonte.
