Labonte Wins at Charlotte
Bobby Labonte appears to be on his way to his first Winston Cup championship. Labonte padded his point lead by winning the UAW-GM Quality 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. In a race that featured 46 lead changes, Labonte was able to beat Jeremy Mayfield to the finish line by 1.166 seconds to win for the fourth time this season. The win was the second career victory for Labonte at the Charlotte track and the first win by a Pontiac at LMS in 10 years. In the Winston Cup point standings, Labonte now leads Jeff Burton by 252 points with only five races remaining.

Gordon Takes Pole at Charlotte
Jeff Gordon will lead the field to the green flag for the UAW-GM Quality 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Sunday. Gordon turned in a qualifying lap of 29.101 seconds, at an average speed of 185.561 mph, to land his 32nd career pole position, his seventh at Charlotte, and his second of the 2000 season. Point leader Bobby Labonte will join Gordon of the front row, starting second, while Jerry Nadeau and Jimmy Spencer round out the second row.
