Pennzoil 400 - Homestead-Miami Speedway
Stewart Wins Again at Homestead, Labonte Wins First Championship
It was a Joe Gibbs Racing party at Homestead, with both of Gibbs' drivers celebrating wins. Tony Stewart won the Pennzoil 400, beating Jeremy Mayfield by a whopping 4.560 seconds to the checkered flag. It was a dominating performance by Stewart, leading 166 of the event's 267 laps, to win for the sixth time this season. Teammate Bobby Labonte won the 2000 Winston Cup championship by finishing fourth, he now holds a 261 point lead over Jeff Burton with one race remaining. Labonte becomes the 24th Winston Cup champion and, along with brother Terry, becomes the first brother combination to win the championship.
Park Grabs Pole at Homestead
Steve Park lay claim to his second pole position of the 2000 season, grabbing the top starting spot for the Pennzoil 400 at Homestead. Park's lap of 34.518 seconds, at an average speed of 156.440 mph, set a new track record. Ricky Rudd will join Park on the front row, starting second, while point leader Bobby Labonte, Jimmy Spencer, and surprising Casey Atwood round out the top five.
