Pepsi 400 - Daytona International Speedway
Burton Wins First at Daytona
Jeff Burton claimed his first career victory at Daytona, capturing the checkered flag in the Pepsi 400 on Saturday evening. Burton used a two-tire stop late in the race to his advantage, holding of Dale Jarrett by .149 seconds to win for the 13th time in his career. Jarrett finished second, while Rusty Wallace, Mark Martin, and Ricky Rudd rounded out and all-Ford top five.
Daytona Ditto, All-Yates Front Row
It's deja vu all over again! Just like the Daytona 500 in February, Robert Yates Racing teammates Dale Jarrett and Ricky Rudd will start from the front row for the Pepsi 400 on Saturday night. In fact, the top-three starting positions are unchanged from the season's opening race. Jarrett turned a lap around Daytona International Speedway in 47.988 seconds, at an average speed of 187.547 mph, to capture his 10th career pole, his third at Daytona. Rudd and Bill Elliott will also start in familiar positions, qualifying second and third respectively. Rookie Dave Blaney will start fourth, while Mark Martin rounds out the top five.
