Daytona 500 - Daytona
Jarrett Wins Third Daytona 500
1999 Winston Cup champion Dale Jarrett picked up where he left off last season, atop the point standings. Jarrett was able to claim his third victory in the Great American Race at Daytona. Jarrett also brought home a $2,200,000 pay day, winning the million dollar bonus for the Winston No Bull 5. Jarrett was able to make a late-race pass of surprising Johnny Benson to take the lead, and cruise to the win under the yellow flag after Jimmy Spencer hit the wall.
Elliott/Rudd Claim 125 Wins
Bill Elliott captured the win in the first Gatorade Twin 125, leading all 50 laps to take the checkered flag over Dale Jarrett. Elliott's win places him in the third starting position for the Daytona 500 on Sunday. Ricky Rudd was victorious in the second 125 mile race, holding off Mike Skinner for the win. Rudd already had the second starting spot locked in, Skinner will join Elliott in row two, starting fourth.
Jarrett Wins Shootout
Defending Winston Cup champion Dale Jarrett topped of a perfect weekend by claiming the top spot in all of this weekend's events. Jarrett, who will start from the pole position for the Daytona 500, first won the qulifying race to transer into the Shootout. Jarrett started the main event in the final spot but worked his way to the front and, with a last-lap pass of Jeff Gordon, brought home the win.
Front Row Set for Daytona 500
Robert Yates Racing has claimed the top two spots for the Daytona 500. Defending Winston Cup champion Dale Jarrett grabbed the pole position with a quick lap of 47.098 seconds, at 191.091 mph. Jarrett's new teammate Ricky Rudd will start from the outside pole for next Sunday's Great American Race. The reamainder of the field will be set following the Gotorade Twin 125's on Thursday.
