Cracker Barrel Old Country Store 500 - Atlanta
Earnhardt Wins by a Nose at Atlanta
Dale Earnhardt claimed his ninth career win at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, edging Bobby Labonte to the finish line by only .009 seconds. After teammate Mike Skinner, who dominated the event for much of the day, blew an engine with 20 laps to go, Earnhardt was able to hold off the hard charging Labonte to take the checkered flag. With the win, Earnhardt moves from seventh in the point standings to third, Labonte continues to lead, followed by Mark Martin in second.
Jarrett on Pole Position at Atlanta
Dale Jarrett, who did not have a single pole in 1999, now has two pole positions in the season's first four races. Jarrett roared to the top spot for the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store 500 with a lap of 28.789 seconds, at 192.574 mph. Dale Earnhardt Jr. will start from the outside pole, while Steve Park and Matt Kenseth make out the second row.
