MacPherson Motorsports and Geoffrey Bodine Team Up for Homestead

CONCORD, N.C., (Oct. 31, 2000) - Veteran NASCAR Winston Cup Series driver Geoffrey Bodine has been named to drive the No. 98 MacPherson Motorsports Ford Taurus in the Nov. 12 Pennzoil 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

MacPherson Motorsports competed in the Oct. 8 UAW-GM Quality 500 at Charlotte (N.C.) with rookie driver Jeff Fuller. It marked Fuller's seventh Winston Cup start of the 2000 season, and in order to preserve Fuller's rookie status for 2001, Bodine was tabbed to pilot the No. 98 entry at Homestead.

"Charlotte gave us a good taste of Winston Cup racing," said team owner Chip MacPherson. "We qualified well and ran okay before mechanical trouble bit us, but we learned a bunch. We didn't want to lose any of the information we gained from that weekend, so we decided to run Homestead in order for us to continue to better this race team.

"Geoffrey is driving for us at Homestead because he brings a lot of experience to a team, that quite frankly, needs some experience. We also wanted to preserve Jeff Fuller's rookie status for next year, and running an eighth race this season would've prevented him from doing that."

Calling the shots as crew chief for the Homestead event will be Steve May. May, who previously worked for Bodine's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series effort, will be filling the role as crew chief since Vic Kangas was released from the team in mid-October.

MacPherson Motorsports, which is continuing its sponsor search for the 2001 season, is in the process of building a new 52,000 square-foot state-of-the-art race shop. The new racing complex, located across from Concord Regional Airport, will include complete chassis and body fabrication capabilities for the team's fleet of Ford Tauruses.
