Drivers Set to Take Historic First Laps at Chicagoland Speedway

Track Construction on Schedule for Spring 2001 Opening

JOLIET, IL, October 18, 2000 - The stars and cars of NASCAR Winston Cup and the Indy Racing Northern Light Series are set to take the historic first laps at Chicagoland Speedway, ushering in a new era of racing in Chicago. In 2001, Chicagoland Speedway will host its inaugural race weekend when the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series and the NASCAR Winston Cup Series race into town July 14 and 15. The ARCA RE/MAX Series and the Indy Racing Northern Light Series make their debut at the speedway September 1 and 2.

WHAT: Scott Sharp and [Dodge team member] will take the ceremonial first laps on the new 1.5 mile D-shaped tri-oval. Chicagoland Speedway officials will announce major track sponsorships and provide a preview of the new facility.

WHERE: Chicagoland Speedway
       3200 S. Chicago Street
       Joliet, Ill.  

Exit Interstate 80 onto Route 53 (Chicago Street) South. Go approximately three miles and take a left at the stoplight onto Laraway Road. Travel one mile on Laraway Road to the Rowell Road intersection, take a right onto the track grounds and proceed through the tunnel to the infield parking area.
