Current Report

Where's Lyndon?

By Nikki Gonzales
April 5, 2001 - Attention: Lyndon Amick, age 23, misplaced since February 2001, last seen wearing a fire suit, driving the number 35 Grand National car at Daytona. If you know the whereabouts or can add to the circumstances of Lyndon being classified as absent, please notify us immediately.

Has anyone noticed that Lyndon Amick has not been around lately? Has he fallen off the face of the earth? Maybe he's been swallowed by a dragon and is living in his belly until he is rescued? Maybe space aliens kidnapped him and he is being probed as you read this? Or maybe his team has just fallen victim to the dying breed of family owned and operated race teams and lack of sponsorship. His website has not been updated this season.

With the exception of Daytona he hasn't entered any races. At day one and two of the practices Lyndon was the fastest. Lyndon started in the top ten but finished just outside the top twenty. Since then he has been like the invisible man. Did his departure from Busch go unannounced? There were reports that his team was restructuring, but Lyndon has not attempted to make the last six of seven races.

Lyndon started the 2000 season with a bang, but the season ended in a fizzle, finishing the season in 28th overall. With three top tens last season, Lyndon faced a variety of setbacks; from accidents, to stepping out of his ride, and even equipment failure. Although he seemed to take everything in stride and kept going.

You do remember Lyndon right? About 6'3" brown hair and eyes, married to Melanie, also answers to the nicknames "Roundman" and "L.A.", resides in Huntersville, NC, started racing when he was about 15, any of this ring a bell? Lyndon even turned the wheel over to Mike Bliss and Elliot Sadler just to see where the team's misfortunes rested. Though between the two drivers they only had one top ten.

I personally don't recall any announcements that Team Amick was scaling back their schedule or that they were closing up shop. Maybe I missed it. Maybe Lyndon is being held hostage somewhere and the kidnappers don't know how much ransom they want. Maybe Lyndon moved on to other opportunities. Maybe Team Amick is searching for a sponsor and once found will return to Grand National racing.

NASCAR is a fast sport and sometimes it's hard to keep up. Sometimes things happen in split seconds. I could go on with the maybes but for now all I will say is "If anyone out there has Lyndon, please let him go, I am sure his fans miss him."

Until next time, take care and remember Safety First!

Nikki
