Jason Keller

Nikki Gonzales By Nikki Gonzales
June 18, 2000 - Well once more this report focuses on the Busch series. I think the NesQuick Bunny has himself confused with the Energizer Bunny, since he keeps on going, and going, right to Victory Lane. The ppc racing teams have a strong hold on the top three in the Busch Grand National point standings, sandwiching Todd Bodine between Jeff Green and Jason Keller, followed by two BGN rookies, Ron Hornaday and Kevin Harvick, rounding out the top five.

Can anyone stop the Bunny? "I don't know that anyone has a chance to catch Green. They are just running incredibly well right now. We are just taking one race at a time and we will see what happens from week to week," explains Jason Keller.

Keller doesn't seem to mind having his toughest competitor as his teammate. "It gives both teams twice the knowledge and twice the feedback as opposed to having just a one car team. And with Jeff, he and I know that with each other we'll get straight answers."

Jason's first win this season came at Dover Downs, he also has five top-fives, and seven top-tens this season. According to Keller, his season has, "been pretty good so far. We started off kind of slow but I think now that this team is really coming together we are showing just what we can do."

Like most drivers, Keller has visions of Victory Lane dancing in his head. His goals for the season are straightforward, "Simply to win more races." Although if things keep going right for the number 10 team, Green's dominance might slow Keller's quest for victories. I guess it's a good thing he has Excedrin available.

So what are Keller's predictions for the rest of the year? "I see us finishing in the top three by the end of the season. Fate will land where it may and we will just do what we have to and see how the cards fall."

Keller is looking forward to "this upcoming set of short tracks (Myrtle Beach, IRP, Milwaukee) and Watkins Glen." Which makes sense since Jason scored a top five at Myrtle Beach yesterday. Last season at IRP, he captured the pole and the win, started fifth at Milwaukee, and notched a top five finish at Watkins Glen.

If you think that special preparations were made in anticipation of Myrtle Beach then you might be surprised to learn that Keller shares that "nothing in particular" was done. According to Jason, "we just approach every race the same as before and work hard every week to get ready for the weekend."

Keller has no immediate plans on leaving the Busch series, in fact when asked how long he will race on the circuit he shares that "as long as I can make a good living at it and be competitive." And that is just what he is doing.

Family seems to be important to most drivers and Keller is no different. His fondest memory is the birth of his children Jade and Joe, and his favorite past time is spending time with them. So on this Father's Day remember Keller and the rest of the drivers who give up their weekends, sometimes away from their families to entertain us, the fans. Sure there are other factors but you get the general idea.
